Ductless Mini-Splits Maintenance / Repair

Why isn't my mini-split blowing cold.hot air?

A ductless mini-split may stop heating or cooling properly because of a dirty filter, restricted airflow, refrigerant issues, thermostat or control problems, or an issue with the indoor or outdoor unit. Cleaning the filters and checking the settings is a good first step, but persistent problems should be professionally inspected.

How often should my mini-split be serviced?

Ductless mini-splits should generally receive professional maintenance at least once a year. Because the indoor units are exposed to household dust and airborne particles, regular cleaning and maintenance can help maintain airflow, efficiency, and overall performance.

Why is my mini-slit making strange noises?

If your mini-split is making unusual buzzing, rattling, grinding, clicking, or squealing sounds, there may be an issue with a fan, motor, loose component, or another part of the system. Some normal operating sounds are expected, but sudden or persistent noises should be inspected to determine their cause.

How do I know if my mini-split needs repair or maintenance?

If your mini-split has weak airflow, isn't heating or cooling properly, leaks water, develops unusual odors, makes strange noises, or struggles to maintain the desired temperature, it may need service. I'm sorry for the length but I have to give background related to the phenomenal service I received from The Air Authority. Our AC went out in July 2026 and after replacing the usual suspects (filter and capacitor), we suspected the compressor. I checked my records and saw the system  had a lifetime warranty on the compressorngrom Goodman. I called what I thought to be an authorized dealer to come take a look. That person came from a company in New Brunswick NJ and he recommended replacing the entire unit because the compressor was not working. I handed him the warranty papers and he was very surprised at the lifetime warranty. He called his company and after much discussion, apparently because they couldn't believe that I had that kind of warranty. I was given a price  of $3450 for LABOR to replace the compressor. This is for a job I checked that should cost $500-1000 depending on hourly rates. That was the predatory practices I feared from the beginning. He recommended that for the age of my system I should just bypass replacement of the compressor and pay them $13k to replace the system. They must be quite Rich from these very lucrative  business practices.

I declined the $3450 labor for the under warranty compressor. Based on a recommendation, I had Air Authority from Monroe NJ come by to check things out. Although there was strong indications that there was a compressor problem, Steve from Air Authority wanted to check for himself. He opened the wiring compartment and almost immediately mentioned that there appears to be a loose connection in the connector. He adjusted the connection and turned the power back on and the AC is now working flawlessly. There are honest people left in this world and I emphatically recommend Air Authority of Monroe New Jersey not only for their competence but most importantly for their honesty.
